Avalanche Rescue
Clinic
1:00 pm – 4:30 pm:
Cost $20.00, Limit 20 skiers, Meet at High
Country Restaurant.
Summary:
This field clinic is an introduction to
Avalanche Rescue. Transceiver, probe, and shovel
skills and techniques, group management, and
victim care will be covered.
Equipment:
Please bring snowshoes or skis for traveling on
the snow. Dress appropriately for being outside
for 3 hours, including a snack and some water.
If you need to borrow a
transceiver/probe/shovel, please let us know
ahead of time and arrive at (the restaurant) 20
minutes before the clinic begins.
Instructor:
Sandy Kobrock, certified avalanche instructor
with Wolf Creek Avalanche School.
1:30 – 3:00 pm,
Classic XC Skiing Techniques Clinic, Beginners
to Advanced
Cost $15, Limit 20 Skiers, Meet at the race
site, just below Windy Point, we miles North of
old town Chama on Hwy. 17 at mile marker 2.
Refine your classic
technique for the race or tour. This on-snow
clinic is open to skiers of all abilities and
will be held on groomed classic tracks.
Participants must have their own ski equipment.
Clinic will teach you how to maximize your kick
and glide for greater skiing efficiency and
longer endurance. Join us to learn how to
improve your ability to glide over the snow and
have more fun on your skinny skis.
Instructors:
Rex Shurtliff and Doug Call from the Pagosa
Springs Nordic Club will work with beginners.
Beginner skiers must rent their own equipment
before coming to the Clinic.
More advanced skiers will work with Ken and
Jessica Kisiel. Ken and Jessica are
Professional Ski Instructor Association (PSIA)
level 3 certified cross-country ski instructors
with nine years experience teaching
cross-country skiing technique in classic and
skate styles for beginner to advanced skiers.
They are avid recreational and competitive
skiers.

races. Judges will be looking at costumes
before and during races. To enter
the contest, racers must be in costume during
the race!!
Race Results
will be posted as soon as we calculate them at
the High Country Restaurant.

Chile/Chili Contest, Cost: $5
Taste the best Chile
or Chili(green, red, Texas style or other
styles) that Chama has to offer! Come and
try out Northern New Mexico's finest and help
decide the winner! Tortillas and cornbread
also provided.

Senior/Community Center at the corner of Hwy
64/84 & Hwy. 17. Look for the signs.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the best chili or
chile!!

Tour will be a round
trip of 5 miles (2 ½ miles one way), on an easy
trail with approximately 400 foot elevation
gain. At the Spruce Hole Yurt, hot drinks
and snacks will be provided.
